    In 2005 he launched retroclipart.com starting with 850 images. That number has since doubled and continues to grow, and retroclipart.com has now clearly established itself as the leading supplier of retro advertising artwork on the internet.

    Mission accomplished? Hardly. Tony has now amassed well over fifteen thousand images, and has access to essentially unlimited amounts. The problem is not in locating the images themselves, but rather in processing them. It takes roughly $100 in resources on average from the time an image is scanned, cleaned, retouched, vectorized, categorized, and added to the cart with all it's components and keywords . That may not sound like much, but if we multiply that cost by even as few as a thousand images, we begin to see the challenge. That doesn't include website construction and on-going maintenance, administration, office overhead, hardware costs, etc. This is precisely the reason why there are very few serious resources for authentic retro clip art on the net beyond Tony's two sites. Anyone who has crunched the numbers has quickly decided to go into some other more rewarding line of work.
    Unfortunately retro art is still only a niche market, in spite of it's apparent popularity. Considering the fact that these images only sell for roughly $12 apiece on average, it takes at least a couple of years for an image to even pay for itself, never mind make a profit.
    Every cent goes right back into processing the endless parade of images which sit on the sidelines, and which Tony continues to acquire at the rate of over 400 per month.


    Meanwhile, of the two most prominent pseudo retro art suppliers, one of them seems to have given up trying to conquer the retro art market (finally), and in fact appears to be making some attempt to improve their drawing skills somewhat with their most recent images. Unfortunately they're still marketing it as "authentic retro clip art" when in reality it is "neo-retro artwork".
    The other party however seems to be on some sort of a rampage, and spends all his time feverishly employing every single technique at his disposal to drive more traffic to his website, in an attempt to become the "king" of the retro art market. The problem of course is that the images are still very poorly drawn, and bear no resemblance to authentic retro clip art. He seems to be completely oblivious to this fact, and continues to barge forth like a bull in a china shop (with about as much decorum).
    Whether he succeeds in getting to the top of the search engines for "retro clip art" is irrelevant. Tony has decided to forgo search engine optimization for the time being at least, and instead has chosen to concentrate on the truly important task at hand, which is finding the means to resurrect and preserve as many of these authentic retro art images as possible, convert them to high quality vector files, and make them available to the public.
